The Gambia Academy Tunes Up
Last September we featured the remarkable West African singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Sona Jobarteh and her innovative, culturally inclusive music. We also introduced you to the Gambia Academy which she founded - the first school of its kind in The Gambia to deliver high level mainstream academic curriculum presented in the context of the rich African culture and traditions that are the children’s birthright. Recently Sona and the Gambia Academy took delivery of a few Takamine G series EG124CN (currently GC1CE-NAT) to help facilitate the Academy’s burgeoning music program. The nylon string, classical guitars were barely out of the boxes when music began to pour from these talented sons and daughters of Africa. Sona and the Academy shared a clip of the event with us – which we would like to share with you.
